About Oakland Park
The City of Oakland Park is one of the older municipalities in Broward County. Originally named "Floranada" (a blend of Florida and Canada), the town was forced into bankruptcy after the hurricane of 1926. Residents chose to make it a city and voted for the name "Oakland Park” in 1926
The little City of Oakland Park gradually outgrew its farming background. Bordering the city of Wilton Manors has spurred interest in the city's downtown redevelopment. Today, it is a little over eight square miles and approximately 43,000 residents call Oakland Park home. It has notable recreation programs with Cross-fit gyms popping up in popularity, its own excellent library, expansive parks, local breweries like the Funky Buddha Brewery gaining notoriety, and much, much more.
