A new dual-branded Starwood Hotel coming to downtown Fort Lauderdale celebrated its groundbreaking on Wednesday, Sept. 21. The 24-story, 323-room hotel will be a design-driven property inspired by the surrounding Flagler Village neighborhood. It will offer an independent coffee shop, restaurant and retail, plus the city's first high-rise rooftop bar.

The property, which is being developed by Wurzak Hotel Group, is divided into two hotels: The Dalmar, a four-star independent boutique hotel in Starwood's Tribute Portfolio, and The Element by Westin, geared toward extended-stay travelers. With an 18-month

Nisi Restaurant Takes Over Former Thasos Greek Taverna Spot, Serving Modern Greek Flavors In Updated Space

One local Greek restaurant has transformed into another.

Nisi, a contemporary Mediterranean restaurant serving Greek and global cuisine, has opened up in the former Thasos Greek Taverna spot on Oakland Park Boulevard.

Before moving on to open Nisi in late August, chef/owner Joshua Wahler and hospitality pro Andy Tsavos together led the front and back of house at Estiatorio Milos in South Beach. 

The duo, who also co-operate children's health food delivery service Born Foody, came upon the opportunity to take over the former Thasos space and saw the building had a lot of potential.
